Wheels of Excellence
What do all famous car manufacturers have in common? For all well-known brands, whether German, Italian, American or of whatever provenance, one manufacturer produces first-class aluminum wheels. For five decades, RONAL GROUP has stood for top-class aluminum wheels – now it focuses on being also a pioneer in terms of sustainability.
The company, which has been headquartered in Härkingen, Switzerland, since 1998, owes this ubiquitous presence to its own claim: to produce the best wheels in the world. The impressive customer portfolio speaks for itself.
Founded in 1969 in Walldorf, Germany, it was one of the first manufacturers to offer light alloy wheels. RONAL GROUP thus pioneered the triumphant advance of the aluminum wheel in series production – before that, cars were usually equipped with heavy and corrosion-prone steel wheels.
This was followed by the first orders from original equipment manufacturers and the gradual opening of factories throughout the world. The up-and-coming wheel manufacturer also began to gain a foothold in racing and to develop wheels for well-known stables.
Today, sustainability is also a key issue for car manufacturers and equipment suppliers, and the RONAL GROUP does not want to be out of step with this positive development. For the international company, these efforts manifest themselves, among other things, in a sustainability committee set up at group level, whose task is to identify potential in this context, propose projects and then drive them forward with the responsible departments. The entire sustainable endeavor within the RONAL GROUP has been dubbed PLANBLUE: This holistic concept is intended to permeate the company at all operational levels and for this purpose is divided into the areas of “Our People”, “Our Business” and “Our World”. The social aspect of “Our People” refers specifically to the development and training of employees, since they are the central success factors and the foundation for the future of the company.
“Our Business” is about transparency and environmental compatibility along the supply chain, especially in the use of aluminum as the main resource. Here, the RONAL GROUP relies on the Aluminium Steward Initiative (ASI), whose members – including the RONAL GROUP – are committed to sustainable aluminum production. In this context, the company has launched the RONAL-RE project, which aims to use more secondary aluminum in wheels in order to reduce the resource consumption of primary aluminum. Finally, renewable energy and an improvement in the carbon footprint also play a crucial role in a greener supply chain.
This is where the “Our World” field of action comes in, which is all about implementing energy efficiency measures and using systematic environmental management to reduce resource consumption and cut waste at their sites worldwide.
As a pioneer of aluminum wheels, the RONAL GROUP has not only conquered the race tracks in the course of its more than 50-year history, but has also continuously followed the path to sustainability. In this way, the international company makes it clear that in a transforming automotive industry, the best wheels in the world must not only offer outstanding performance, but also inevitably embody climate compatibility.
