Talos Energy
Global demand for energy is rising as humanity worldwide seeks greater prosperity and an ever-increasing quality of life. A sustainable future is not void of energy, but rather will require more energy supply with a lower carbon footprint. So, what role will today’s oil and gas companies play in a low carbon future?
Talos Energy is tackling that problem and aims to build the energy company of tomorrow. They are a leading U.S. energy company with two simple goals: Be a safe and responsible Upstream energy producer today and build a portfolio of carbon capture and sequestration projects focused on decarbonization of industrial emissions for tomorrow. Its vision extends beyond reducing its own emissions and seeks to reduce emissions from industrial customers while also enabling the development of future blue economies.
“The same skills set that makes us so effective at being an offshore oil and gas operator can be used in the sequestration and monitoring business that we think will evolve along the U.S. Gulf Coast and beyond.”
Timothy S. Duncan, Founder, President and CEO, Talos Energy
Timothy S. Duncan explains further: “Those skills are geology, drilling and project management. So, we have launched the CCS business and Talos Low Carbon Solutions to complement what we do in oil and gas and be more involve in the boarder ecosystem of the energy complex.
Robin Fielder, EVP of Low Carbon Strategy and Chief Sustainability Officer at Talos Energy says that energy companies have a responsibility to make sustainability more achievable for others:
“Even if the world goes completely electric, petroleum sources will still be needed for power generation, ammonia for agriculture, and plastics for everything. Talos is an early mover in technologies such as carbon sequestration, which means we can enable our partners to achieve value from oil and gas products without paying the high environmental cost that has been associated with the sector.”
“Talos has an unwavering commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, good governance and strong ethical standards. These are critical to our success as a company and our social license to operate.”
Paula R. Glover, Board of Directors, Chair of Safety, Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility Committee, Talos Energy
In addition, Talos maintains a constant focus on how it impacts the environment, safety and well-being of employees and the wider contributions it makes to local communities. The approach has paid off, with Talos being recognized as a Top Workplace in Houston nine straight years in a row.
Nikhil Joshi, Director Innovation & Technology at Talos Energy says that the energy sector has to change, and we are building a blueprint for what an energy company should be:
“Our technical, operational and commercial expertise will help supply society’s growing need for secure, responsible and affordable energy. Add in numerous carbon capture projects to reduce industrial emissions, and Talos employees are proud to be global citizens, building value for all stakeholders.”
