Creating a circular, low-carbon future for aluminium
A profile of Novelis. Inc, a world leader in sustainable aluminium rolling and recycling.
Every year, millions of tons of aluminium that could have been recycled, are instead discarded in landfills around the globe. This is harmful to the environment and unnecessary as aluminium is an infinitely recyclable material.
“Sustainability is not a nice to have, it is a must-have for us. It is embedded in the way we do business. ”
Devinder Ahuja, Chief Financial Officer, Novelis
As the industry pioneer of sustainable recycling programs, Novelis is committed to create a circular, low-carbon future for aluminium. As part of this goal, Novelis plans to achieve a 30% percent carbon reduction by 2026 and become carbon neutral by 2050.
“Our position in the industry is one of leadership, and one that we will lean forward, find new technologies, and promote new ways of working together in the industry.”
Steve Fisher, the CEO, Novelis
Novelis is doing its part by implementing best available environmental controls and technologies to reduce its CO2 footprints, by investing in recycling centres around the world, and working with stakeholders to drive recycling rates through partnerships.
In addition, the company joined the aluminium branch of the First Movers Coalition (FMC), along with other FMC members, Novelis believes the goal can only be achieved if it leads by example and ensures active participation from the entire industry.
While Novelis is pursuing several, impactful sustainability targets to foster a circular, carbon neutral economy, it’s also creating innovative initiatives and collaborative partnerships to recycle more aluminium and in a more efficient way.
